Ignoring Distractions to Reach your Potential

Recently I was sitting in my car five minutes early for a meeting. I thought that while I waited I would open the Selfpause app and listen to a 5 minute affirmation meditation. But right as I opened up the app, a mosquito buzzed by my face.

You want to know what I did?

I couldn’t sit there meditating with a mosquito buzzing around my car right?

I spent the next five minutes swatting at the mosquito trying to catch it in my car. I probably looked like a crazy person. Before I knew it, my five minutes was up, I hadn’t caught the mosquito, and had to go to my appointment.

So often in life we get distracted by the tiny mosquitoes that are inconsequential things. It’s pretty easy to let them suck up our time and prevent us from accomplishing our actual goals. And you want to know the crazy thing? Even if you CAN squash that distracting mosquito, there’s likely always going to be another one that pops up.

We are constantly being presented with a choice to either put our focus on our goals, our affirmations, and our vision for our life or to waste our time accomplishing useless tasks that only appear to be time-sensitive.

The more we make the choice to focus on the most important tasks, the more we realize that all the little mosquitoes and small distractions in our life don’t really matter.
