Welcome to March and welcome to Women’s History Month!
Take time to remind yourself of the often-overlooked accomplishments of women to our culture and society and reflect on the great women in your life that have sacrificed for you and improved the quality of your life.
The theme for this year’s National Women’s History Month, “Providing Healing, Promoting Hope,” is both a tribute to the continuous work of caregivers and frontline workers during this pandemic and also an acknowledgment of the countless ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history.
These are the counselors, scientists, artists, teachers, doctors, nurses, caregivers, farmers, and engineers. They are the mothers, grandmothers, daughters, sisters, and friends. They are the women who serve others, who listen and love, ease suffering, teach, guide, and protect others. These are the women who advocate for a better world, demand social justice, and promote peace and equality for all.
Women have historically advocated for ethical treatments and better directions in public and women’s health (both mental and physical). Women have also led the way in finding peaceful solutions in society. It is the timeless work of women that (in addition to so many other things) have promoted hope and change, and have helped so many pursue their dreams.
Use your voice to spread positivity and hope by, first, changing your own inner-dialogue. Affirmations can rewire the brain to improve self esteem, self-perception, and even problem solving abilities (read more here). Acquire a mindset of optimism and growth, and use that to help lift others up; you have to fill your own cup before filling others. Prioritize inner peace and do the inner work you need to do to be able to take care of the people around you. Empower yourself and then empower others.
This uncertain time offers the opportunity to dig deeper into your own heritage, and deepen your own understanding of what women, and men, went through before us to improve life for all. Our strength is in our history.
Honor the women who have provided healing and safety in your life, and be the one that someone else can come to when they need comfort and hope. If we want to live in a better world we must take care of each other. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.
