The distinction between mindset and state of mind is not an easy one to make. You see, a mindset is the foundation of your attitude, and your attitude influences your beliefs. Your beliefs are shaped by your mindset, which reinforces your beliefs. Ideas are the basic building blocks of beliefs, but your attitude is what gives them legs. Once you feel convinced of a particular idea, it becomes a belief. Mindset is not a new concept, but its origins are difficult to pinpoint. People with the growth mindset tend to achieve more, are more open to learning, and are less concerned with looking smart. In contrast, companies with a fixed mindset report that their employees cheat more and do less creative work.
